After a Parachute Malfunction Mark “Woody” Woodruff Shows Off His Great Driving Skills

Mark “Woody” Woodruff is a killer driver. The soft-spoken Missourian needed all of his skills to bring his gorgeous twin turbocharged 1967 Corvette to a safe stop at the infamously short Holly Springs Raceway in Holly Springs, Mississippi.

Holly Springs, home of some of the quickest radial racing passes of all time, despite having a short shutdown area, meaning quicker cars like Woody’s rely on the parachutes every pass down the track to slow to safe speeds to navigate the cul de sac-style return road. On this pass, however, the chutes failed to deploy properly, sending Woodruff and his show-quality ‘Vette hurtling toward the brush the lies beyond the end of the track.

However, Mark was no stranger to Holly Springs and knew what he had to do. He slammed on the brakes to scrub as much speed as possible before cranking the wheel to the right to slide the car sideways, scrubbing even more speed, then cranked it back to the left to give himself as much room as possible. Turning back to the left also allowed him to see the slowing Mustang of Kevin Mullins to make sure the two cars didn’t tangle.

Woody did a stellar job of saving his car, himself, and keeping clear of Mullins. That is some incredible driving!
