Veteran borrows truck, transports dozens to hospital after Las Vegas shooting

Just days ago, our nation witnessed one of its biggest tragedies in the biggest mass shooting that we all saw the results of in Las Vegas. While many continue to talk about the shooter, I think that what’s more important is to recognize the heroes, the people who were on the scene and went above and beyond in selfless acts to make sure that those around them were as safe as could possibly be and helped to deliver a shoulder to lean on for those who needed it. The name that we would like to take time to send some appreciation to is Taylor Winston. We think that he should not only be commended for his incredible courage and bravery but also for setting an example for how others could choose to live in some small way on a day-to-day basis.

When Winston saw people who were in serious peril when the events of the Las Vegas Massacre began to unfold, he hopped to action, stealing one of the event’s service trucks and going around to help wherever he could, whether it was helping people to gain a better place of shelter or delivering folks to the hospital. When all was said and done, he said he was able to get 20-30 people medical attention that they so severely needed along with the countless others that he probably helped get to safety. Winston attributes much of the way that he acted to his military training. After joining the Marines at 17 and serving two tours in Iraq, Winston would be honorably discharged as a Sergeant.

The video below follows all that Taylor Winston went through on the behalf of others that night and gives us some insight as to exactly what was going through his head as all of this was happening. It takes a pretty special person to run back toward the gunfire to help others instead of running with the crowd as they all scurried and tried to get away, a response that we would also consider to be very reasonable in this situation. Today, we tip our hats to you, Taylor, and thank you for setting such an example for all of those who call themselves Americans today.
