CHP Helicopters Night Vision Busts Driver For Burnouts.

CHP Uses Helicopter with Night Vision to Bust Driver For Burnouts

In recent news, the California Highway Patrol has released footage that they acquired during a sideshow that showed a driver doing burnouts in what appears to be a section of road in a wooded area. The chopper would hover overhead using a special camera to see exactly what was going on as they watched the show unfold. This would precede the arrival of multiple ground units that would make an arrest and file charges against the individual behind the wheel in the sideshow.

In a statement, CHP said “On July 21st we posted about a sideshow that one of our airplane crews located at the end of Lynch Road in Solano County. Last Tuesday, our crew was in court when the suspect was convicted for participating in a speed contest (23109 (c) vc). The 21 year old Elk Grove man was given a 30-day drivers license suspension along with a $850 fine.

Sideshows are illegal…those who participate in them will be arrested with steep fines and suspensions of their drivers license.”

The reaction to the investigation has been a bit split on social media. Some of the crowd seems to think that the police were nowhere near strict enough and that an $850 fine and a 30-day suspension of a license isn’t going to do anything to deter a driver from acting out again. On the other hand, there also seems to be a group of people who are up in arms about the use of police resources with one user chiming in with “Looks like that was a safe area to play,” continuing with “That’s what we did 40 yrs ago for fun? Still fun today.”

After checking out the scene below as posted by the CHP – Golden Gater Division Air Operations Facebook page, be sure to chime in with what you think of the way this situation has developed a life all its own.
