Ford Buys Electric Scooter Startup “Spin” For $40,000

It seems like, in this day and age, all kinds of automakers are making the news for reasons that you wouldn’t really expect. To be honest, the automotive landscaping in 2018 and beyond is something that not too many people probably would’ve been able to predict as it has really thrown us some curveballs, whether it be through alternative power sources, drastic segment eliminations, or something like this where major automaker is dipping their toes into lines of business that have little or nothing to do with traditional cars and trucks at all.

This time, a story has caught our attention as it has struck the headlines as Ford, yeah, that’s right, the brand that has decided to dump all of their cars and switch to bigger vehicles like SUVs, has now decided that they would like to take a look at a segment that is smaller than the car, physically speaking, of course, in the personal transportation segment, taking a quick glance at the likes of electric scooters that are designed to replace some of the different methods of travel that you will encounter in heavily congested areas.

These scooters that will cost one dollar to rent and $.15 per minute on top of that are designed to compete with companies like Bird and Lime. Basically, the concept is that they are a quick way of getting around and can generate a good amount of income for Ford as they compete in an attempt to clear up the travel in these tightly compact areas. It’s definitely an interesting expansion for a major automaker like this and it will be one of the experiments to watch in the coming years to see how exactly it all pans out as the brand moves forward, trying to predict the next big trend in transportation.
