Ford Will Provide De Tomaso With Engines for Return to America

De Tomaso, while not usually mentioned with the houshold names in supercars, has always been a brand that has brought magnificent styling to the market. Their “Pantera” model is one that’s hard to not find some sort of visual appeal in.

The brand had stopped making cars back in the early 2000s, but it appears as if a revival is in the works. Images and videos of the De Tomaso P72 have been circulating and building hype about the brand that’s said to be coming stateside to execute the construction of the model.

This time, we check in with the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed that shows off the P72. The idea is o pick up where the brand left off with its P70 model. The P70 was a mahine that Alejandro de Tomaso teamed up with Carroll Shelby to try to perfect. However, complications would mean that the P70 project would never be seen to fruition.

The description of the video posted by Automotive Mike urges us to “Fast forward to 2019, the P70’s spirit lives on in the new P72 unveiled today at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The curvaceous machine with its retro-flavored design will make up for lost time by actually going into production, albeit a limited one of only 72 cars. Technical specifications are shrouded in mystery at this point, but we do know the car uses a carbon fiber chassis derived from the Apollo Intensa Emozione.”

The estimated cost associated with such a machine is estimated to be somewhere in the $850,000 range. The car will feature a manual transmission and combine with Ford power thanks to a supercharged 5.0L Coyote V8.

Below, we get the chance to get up close and personal with the prototype to see exactly what the P72 is all about. This car would definitely make for an interesting addition to just about any collection.
