No Mercy 9 Radial Vs The World Final Round – Alex Laughlin Vs Jeff Naiser

Consistency was the name of the game this weekend at Duck X Productions’ No Mercy 9. With searing 90 degree temps and soaking humidity, the conditions called for tuners to be somewhat conservative as track temperatures soared into the 140 degree range during the hottest part of the day.

Between Frankie Taylor, tuner and crew chief for Alex Laughlin, and Kenny Hubbard calling the shots for Jeff Naiser, these two cars accounted for a total of 10 A-to-B passes in eliminations on a day that saw upset after upset when the favored car spun the tires. Conditions like these are when tuners earn their keep, and these two certainly did their jobs well as they gave their drivers everything needed to get to the final round.

In what promised to be a great side-by-side race, Laughlin and Naiser both rolled to the starting line with their hearts set on taking home the $50,000 paycheck and the bragging rights that come with winning one of promoter Donald Long’s events. However, there could only be one winner, and they both fought valiantly to be the man on Sunday afternoon.

Laughlin and company had a mad dash between rounds to replace a broken lifter, barely making the rushed call to the finals due to threatening rain. Naiser and Hubbard waited patiently for their competition, and the cars lined up to crown a champion as the sky darkened over SGMP. The gorgeous nitrous-fed Camaro strapped a stellar .017 reaction on Laughlin’s blown Speed Society-sponsored ’Vette, leaving him to try to play catch-up, but it simply wasn’t to be for Laughlin and company.

Naiser would put up a 3.79 elapsed time while Alex followed just behind his front wheel with a solid 3.80 that came up just a tad short. Congratulations are in order for both teams for their awesome weekends. Hopefully we’ll see them both in the final at one of these events and Alex can take a shot at tying up the score.
