Original Dale Earnhardt #3 Car Auctioned Off at Barrett-Jackson Online in COVID-19 Relief Effort

In terms of NASCAR memorabilia, there is one name that stands out among the pack. At least when we’re talking about value, Dale Earnhardt seems to be the most sought after name even to this day. There aren’t many drivers who can really hold a candle to the collectible factor of Earnhardt memorabilia. He was arguably the best to get behind the wheel of a NASCAR racing machine so it’s only natural.

Over the years, collectors have had lots of opportunities to get their hands on Dale merchandise. One item coming up on the auction block next month, though, is perhaps the coolest piece of Earnhardt memorabilia. At the Barrett-Jackson online auction beginning on May 8, 2020, fans will have a chance to bid on one of Dale’s cars. That’s right, one of the No. 3 cars driven by The Intimidator himself could be yours.

The auction designed to assist COVID-19 relief efforts is auctioning off one of the most sought after cars in NASCAR. Richard Childress is offering the car up for sale to benefit the good cause. This marks the first time that he has ever let an Earnhardt car go from his collection.

In a quote, Childress tells us “I’ve grown my personal collection of memorabilia throughout my career in NASCAR and have especially enjoyed the Dale Earnhardt cars in my collection because they each have such a unique history that bring back priceless memories of my years winning and racing with Dale.” He continues “I’ve never parted with an Earnhardt Chevrolet from my collection, but with a global pandemic taking place and people in our communities suffering, it’s time to do what I can to help. All proceeds will benefit much-needed causes to fight the devastating effects of COVID-19 on a local and national level.”

The post on the Richard Childress Racing website even mentions the races that the car was involved in.

“Earnhardt made select NASCAR Cup Series starts in this intermediate-style Chevrolet at tracks such as Bristol Motor Speedway, Dover International Speedway, Rockingham Speedway and Darlington Raceway between 1996 and 1999. Highlighted by a win at Rockingham Speedway in 1996, Earnhardt did not finish worse than fourth with Chassis No. 22 in its first three on-track appearances.”

The car will be just one piece of “hard-to-find and exclusive” memorabilia from Childress’s collection that will be available during the auction from May 8-16. The items can be bid on at this link.
