Turbo SR20 Transforms a Slammed Willys Jeep Into a Tuner’s Dream Machine

One of the coolest things about building a car is how many different ways someone can choose to go. Creativity can truly be unleashed in the world of wheels in a way that’s truly an art form.

There’s nothing necessarily wrong with the tried and true. However, the truly special combinations are those that venture off of the beaten path a little bit. When a build does something that makes us do a double-take, we can’t help but love it.

This time, we check out a combination that is absurdly unconventional. In fact, in the world of custom Jeep builds, this one might practically define the word “unconventional.”

It all started out with a 1946 Jeep Willys. Most of the time, we see these things restored and perhaps taken in the direction of off-road apparel. This time, however, that wasn’t even in consideration for the man behind the build. Instead, we would see the Jeep dropped to the ground and the engine swapped with an unlikely candidate.

As it turns out, back in 1946, not too many engines were making all that much power. While the Willys might be cool to drive around, the excitement factor of laying into the throttle simply wouldn’t be there with stock power. However, with the help of an SR20, things would be spiced up just a little bit. After all, this is one of the most popular engines in tuner culture for a reason!

By following along with the AutotopiaLA video below, we get an up-close and personal look at the Jeep. With a combination of power and lightweight chassis, this thing has to be an absolute blast to drive. In addition, we would imagine that it turns heads absolutely everywhere that it goes. We don’t think we’re going out too far on a limb to say that there is no other Jeep in the world exactly like this one.
